How Our Personal Passions Impact our Professional Lives: Insights from the Chirp Team
At Chirp, we believe that the personal passions we pursue outside of work have a profound impact on our professional lives. Personal fulfillment encourages us to embrace change and foster our innate creativity that we must continually nurture.
All too often we neglect doing something because time is tight, or distractions inevitably occur. These things we pursue and explore are what make us unique, cohesive, and human.
It’s easy to get caught up in meetings, schedules and deadlines – our professional careers are a major part of our lives. But how boring would it be if we were just a sum of our accomplishments at work, and not a beautiful combination of passion and personal interests that make us truly individuals?
Our passions add depth and richness to our lives. They allow us to connect over shared experiences and interests on a level unattainable by other topics of interest. We build relationships over our love of national parks, sharing stories of our favorite travel experiences or swapping our latest food finds – things you can’t do over analytics or engagement numbers. We relate on which veggies or herbs we’re gardening this season, not on metrics and press releases.
Personal fulfillment reminds us that we are individuals first with unique stories that contribute to the quality of our lives, which includes our professional paths.
As marketing & PR professionals, we prioritize creativity and ways to land on the right idea or pitch that has potential to resonate with our target audience. When writing, creating, or brainstorming, we aim for our ideas to flow smoothly and seamlessly to achieve the intended outcome. To foster creativity in our work, we must give ourselves dedicated time to think and be creative for ourselves. Sometimes ideas come to us when watering our gardens, reading a new book, or photographing a new subject. If our minds are constantly pressured to create for someone else and not for a personal purpose, we aren’t giving ourselves the room to produce great ideas.
Trying new things and diving deeper into our personal passions brings joy, giving us a sense of satisfaction. We have found that this excitement spills over into our professional lives, creating a more engaging and motivating atmosphere for our team. Creating music allows us to enjoy a world of peace, breaking away from a long day’s work. Hiking brings an escape from reality (and cell service), encouraging us to focus on recentering ourselves.
As backwards as it sounds – the creative breaks that we take from our professional life truly improve the way we approach our daily work. These activities allow us to stimulate other parts of our brain that sometimes fall stagnant during our daily routine.
At Chirp, we foster a work wherever/whenever culture that enables us to be present when needed and focus when able. We believe that embracing our personal passions allows us to be more effective client counselors.
Immersing ourselves in activities that inspire and challenge us is one of the most rewarding ways to see personal growth. Whether it’s cooking, traveling, or photography, we allow ourselves new experiences that create new skills. We face challenges, we learn how to be resilient, and become more adaptable to the daily distractions of life.
These lessons we learn from our personal passions often reflect traits we seek to improve in our professional lives. Embroidery teaches patience and that progress is sometimes more important than perfection. Golf shows the importance in strategy and persistence. Traveling connects us with different cultures and helps us build relationships despite our differences.
At Chirp, we understand that personal passions and hobbies are not just pastimes; they are essential to fostering creativity, promoting balance, and enhancing professional growth. Our team celebrates individuality and believes that pursuing something important to you is one of life’s greatest gifts.
Explore your passions, try something new, and watch how it breathes life into both your personal and professional life.
